how to get the best engagement photos
The great thing about engagement photoshoots is that you get the chance to feel comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. Many of us just don’t know how to be in front of a camera,I mean,I know some take selfies but it’s a little different right? An engagement photoshoot can help to break the ice and get you confident. It’s also a great time to get to know more about your photographer and how they work along with just getting to know them on a personal level.
Location
Choosing a great location for your engagement shoot can help alot. You can maybe opt for a location which is special to you and your partner, or if you’re unsure where to have the engagement shoot, ask your photographer. Usually, photographers can suggest locations which will work for your story and personality. It could be a location where you went on a first date, or where a special moment took place like your proposal, or maybe you are fans of a specific spot for some other reason. Don’t limit yourself – us creative photographers love an adventure!
Time of Year & Day
The time of year you choose to have your engagement shoot can add a different element to your photos. The colours in summer will be different from the colours in autumn for instance. Ali & Dave’s engagement shoot we did on a clear crisp day but it was in the colder months so we worked with a lot of reds and browns in the photos. You can have your engagement shoot at any point in the year since you can choose to either have it outdoors or indoors. Whatever suits you both!
The time of day an be imperative and it’s something you can discuss with the photographer depending on the style of photos you want at the end of the engagement shoot.
Outfits
One of the things I always ask couples to do is bring 2 / 3 outfits as a minimum. This way we can really mix up the photos and you leave with a variety of photos to use later down the line. It’s not always a must but it does help to create a mixture of engagement photos. You want to feel comfortable during the shoot but still smart and authentic to your normal style of clothes so I’d recommend co0ordinating something out of your wardrobe that works! You can add accessories or props to the photoshoot to mix it up too.
Hair & Makeup
Some people love to have hair and make up done for engagement shoots but some prefer to rock it out themselves. Entirely up to you! Professionally done makeup does tend to photo better as the application of the makeup is different to everyday wear. Feel free to take any makeup with you to do touch ups too 🙂
Have Fun!
As daunting as you may think it will be – it never is that bad. By the end of it, you’ll be want even more glam photos of yourself and will be raring to go for the wedding photos! Remember to just enjoy the photoshoot and trust your photographer is giving you the right instruction to get the best photos possible. Thats’ why you hired them after all!
