After having an amazing experience with my son’s cake smash photoshoot for his first birthday, I knew I had to do the same for my daughter.Not only did I want to capture her joyful spirit, but I also wanted to create lasting memories of this milestone that we’ll cherish forever.

I chose a soft pastel theme to match the warmth and sweetness of the occasion. The setup included light pinks, soft purples, and a few other accents to add a little sparkle. I used a pastel coloured & detailed backdrop for this session brought from Amazon which was super different to my son’s!
2. The Cake
Just like with my son, I ordered a small, baby-friendly cake from a local bakery here in Manchester. I made sure the cake was free from any nuts or allergens and decorated it with pastel-colored frosting to match the theme. It was soft, simple, and, most importantly, perfectly smashable!
3. The Outfit
For my daughter, I went for a cute and comfy little dress in pastel. It had lace and a speckles of colour, which was just the right mix of adorable and practical for a messy photoshoot. I wanted her to feel comfortable and look adorable while she went to town on the cake!
The Experience
As I placed the cake in front of my daughter, I could see the curiosity in her eyes. She didn’t know what to make of this beautiful, frosted treat sitting in front of her. But as soon as she touched it and realised she could make a mess, well… the fun began!
At first, she cautiously poked the cake with her finger, unsure of what it was. Then, she dove right in—squishing the frosting between her little hands, smiling, giggling, and making a delicious mess. It was adorable to watch, and I made sure to capture every little moment. From the surprise of the first taste to the frosting-covered cheeks, the photos tell the story of her excitement and innocence.
Of course, the best part was watching her giggle and play with the cake, and we even managed to get a few family photos in between the cake smashes. I loved how these images captured her personality—fun-loving, curious, and full of joy.
