Alternative Wedding Photographer Manchester
Alternative Wedding Photographer Manchester
Becoming an alternative wedding photographer in Manchester wasn’t something I ever planned – it’s just where the journey led me.
After finishing university in Manchester and spending time backpacking around Australia, Asia, Hong Kong and Tokyo, I returned home just in time for the 2008 recession. Jobs were scarce, and it took the best part of a year to even find part-time work. What felt like a setback at the time turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
With time on my hands, I began exploring photography as more than just a passion. I started shooting weddings on a budget to build my portfolio, alongside live music photography and portrait sessions. That mix of creativity, pressure, and real-world experience shaped the way I shoot today – and it’s a huge part of why couples now book me as their alternative wedding photographer in Manchester.

Experience That Shapes My Wedding Photography
When you hire a photographer, you’re not just paying for the images on the day. You’re paying for years of experience, long nights, trial and error, and the determination it took to build something from nothing.
Every photographer’s journey is different – whether it’s someone changing careers, a parent building a business around family life, or someone who’s had enough of the 9–5 and decides to go all in. We all carve our own path into the industry.
You can see how this approach translates into real wedding days across Manchester and beyond here.
In this post, I wanted to share some of my live music photography plus some shots from alternative weddings. Many past couples have told me they booked me because they saw something different in my work – something raw, energetic and honest. That style comes directly from shooting live music and portraits, where you have to react quickly, read the room, and capture real moments as they happen. The same approach translates perfectly into alternative wedding photography.
After countless late nights and learning everything the hard way, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some incredible clients, including Kerrang! Magazine, NME Magazine, Manchester International Festival, BMG Records, and many more.
