You shouldn’t have to spend the day standing in poses or constantly being pulled away from your guests.
As a documentary wedding photographer in Manchester, I focus on capturing the real moments as they happen – the laughter, nerves, happy tears, hugs, chaos and all the little interactions you might otherwise miss.
I’ll also give you gentle direction when you want it, particularly during couple portraits.
The result? Natural, honest photographs that bring you back to how your wedding actually felt.

What is documentary wedding photography?
Documentary wedding photography is about telling the story of your day as it unfolds, rather than constantly creating moments for the camera.
I’m looking for:
- Reactions during the ceremony
- Hugs and conversations
- Your friends making each other laugh
- Emotional moments
- Guests enjoying themselves
- The atmosphere of your venue
- Those completely unexpected moments
Some photographs will be dramatic. Others will be quiet and subtle.
Together, they tell the story of your wedding.
A music photography background
Before specialising in weddings, I spent years photographing music and live performances ( I still do!).
That experience taught me to anticipate moments, work quickly, deal with challenging lighting and look for energy and emotion.
I bring that same approach to weddings.
I’m watching what’s happening rather than constantly directing it – which helps me capture genuine moments without making you feel like you’re being photographed every second.
“We’re awkward in front of the camera”
I hear this a lot.
You don’t need to be models.
You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands.
I’ll give you enough direction to help you feel comfortable, while leaving plenty of room for natural interaction.
If you’re a couple who would rather laugh together than spend half an hour posing, that’s absolutely fine.

Documentary doesn’t mean no portraits
I don’t believe documentary wedding photography means never directing a photograph.
If you’ve chosen a beautiful venue, we’ll make the most of it.
Want some photographs looking at the camera? Of course.
Want family group photographs? Absolutely.
Want some relaxed portraits together? We’ll make time for them.
The difference is that portraits are part of your wedding story – not the entire story.
Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot
I want you to enjoy your wedding.
Talk to your friends. Eat the food. Laugh. Get emotional. Dance badly. Spend time with the people you love.
I’ll be there photographing it.
My aim is to fit photography around your day, rather than making your day revolve around photography.
