As a proposal and engagement photographer in Manchester, I’ve had the privilege of capturing many intimate moments, but there’s something truly special about winter proposals.

Planning the Perfect Surprise: From Enquiry to Sunset Proposal
Every unforgettable proposal begins long before the moment one partner gets down on one knee.
When Matt first reached out to me, he had a clear vision: he wanted a romantic winter proposal at Fletcher Moss in Didsbury, but he also wanted everything to feel natural and relaxed.
Together, we crafted a seamless plan that would keep the surprise intact while ensuring the photos captured every genuine emotion.
To set the scene, Matt had decided to structure the session as a simple couples photoshoot – something his partner would expect and enjoy.
This allowed us to explore the park without raising suspicion, making use of the beautiful winter light as we moved through the gardens and woodland areas.
Behind the scenes, however, we had carefully coordinated the exact location and timing for the proposal.
Fletcher Moss offers countless beautiful backdrops, but we chose a some what quiet scenic spot that would look magical in the late afternoon light.
To make the most of the winter sunset, we timed the surprise for just before golden hour, when the soft, glowing light adds warmth and emotion to every frame. Being Manchester – we had a backup plan in the case of rain of course!
When the moment came,I gave Matt the discreet direction ahead of the proposal.
He dropped to one knee after some words between them both, and the reaction was priceless – just pure joy.
After the proposal, we transitioned into a newly engaged portrait session, capturing the fresh excitement and tenderness that follows such a meaningful moment.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect: the sun dipped lower, casting a dreamy glow over Fletcher Moss and giving us the most beautiful backdrop to end the session.
This kind of planning is one of my favourite parts of being an engagement photographer in Manchester- helping create not just stunning images, but meaningful, memorable experiences.
