How to Plan a City Wedding in Manchester – A Manchester City Wedding Photographer’s Perspective
So, you’re thinking about having a city wedding in Manchester? First of all – congrats! 🎉
Whether you’re just starting to plan or knee-deep in Pinterest boards and colour palettes, I wanted to share some advice from my side of the camera.
As a Manchester city wedding photographer, I’ve had the joy of capturing some incredible urban weddings around this amazing city.
Here’s a laid-back, honest guide to planning your Manchester city wedding – plus a few of my favourite venues, florists, and planners to check out along the way.

Why Manchester is Perfect for a City Wedding
Manchester has this electric mix of old and new – Victorian architecture, converted warehouses, cool rooftop bars, you name it. Whether you’re dreaming of something super modern or a bit more romantic and traditional, this city really delivers.
And from a photographer’s perspective? It’s a dream. The light, the backdrops, the street vibe – it’s all so photogenic (even when it rains, which, let’s be honest, it probably will at least once 😅).

Favourite Wedding Venues in Manchester
I’ve shot weddings all over the North West snd some are still on the ‘to shoot in’ list but these Manchester venues are some of my absolute faves for city weddings:
- Victoria Warehouse – Think exposed brick, industrial vibes, and a lot of personality. Perfect for bold, modern weddings.I’ve shot many live shows there and attended a few warehouse project nights but a wedding is on the to do list!
- Great John Street Hotel – Timeless and elegant. Great if you’re after a bit of luxury and classic charm.
- The Castlefield Rooms – Overlooking canals and cobbled streets, this place feels tucked away yet totally Manc.
- People’s History Museum – Super cool, with a creative, laid-back feel and some gorgeous backdrops for post wedding photos.
- Manchester Art Gallery – For couples who want something a bit different—stunning interiors and culture rolled into one. This one is still on my to do list!
- Fairfield Social Club – So much character – I mean just have a look! Super excited to shoot a wedding there soon

Each one offers a completely different atmosphere, and it really comes down to your style as a couple.
A Few Photography Tips for Your Manchester City Wedding
Okay, here’s the bit I know best – capturing the day.
- Make time for some city portraits: Whether it’s in the Northern Quarter with its street art or along the canal in Castlefield, the city makes for killer backdrops.Hire a chauffeur from suppliers like Chauffeur Services Group or an alternative option to make getting to locations a bit quicker and smoother!
- Plan for the weather: Manchester’s skies are… unpredictable. Bring a cute umbrella and embrace the moody light – it actually photographs beautifully!
- Don’t stress about the timeline: Urban weddings often mean lots of moving parts, but I’m used to going with the flow. I’ll help make sure we still get the shots that matter most.
Manchester is such a special place to tie the knot – it’s full of life, character, and unexpected little gems.
Whether you’re planning a low-key city elopement or a big party with all your favourite people, I’d love to be there to capture it all.
