How Many Wedding Photos Will We Receive?

Following a recent pre-wedding chat with one of my couples, this question came up (again!) –
“How many photos will we actually receive?”

It’s such a popular question – and honestly, a really good one – so I thought I’d put together a quick blog post to help couples planning their wedding in Manchester and across the North West know exactly what to expect.

So… How Many Photos Do You Get?

The honest answer is: it depends – but to give you a clear idea, here’s what most couples receive:

  • Half-day coverage (4–6 hours): around 200–400 photos
  • Full-day coverage (8–10 hours): around 400–800 photos
  • Extended coverage (10+ hours): 600–1,000+ photos

That’s a full gallery of beautifully edited, high-resolution images – ready to download, share, and print.

What Actually Affects the Number?

How Long I’m There

This is the biggest one. A full-day wedding (from morning prep through to dancing) naturally tells a bigger story than a shorter booking – so you’ll receive more images.

The Size of Your Wedding

More guests = more moments.

Big weddings around Manchester and the North West tend to generate:

  • More candid interactions
  • More group shots
  • More little in-between moments

Smaller weddings might have fewer images overall, but they’re often more intimate and story-driven.

Photography Style

Every photographer shoots a little differently.

  • Documentary / natural style: lots of candid moments = more images
  • Traditional / posed: fewer, more structured shots
  • Editorial: more focus on key standout images

My approach (like many North West wedding photographers) is a mix – so you get a well-rounded gallery without it feeling overwhelming.

One Photographer or Two?

If you’ve got a second shooter, you’ll usually receive more photos.

It means:

  • Both of you can be captured getting ready
  • More angles throughout the day
  • Extra candid moments of your guests

Your Timeline

A relaxed, well-planned timeline makes a big difference.

If there’s time to breathe, move between locations, and maybe even catch a bit of golden hour (when Manchester weather allows it 😅), you’ll naturally end up with a richer gallery.

If you’re in the planning stages, this sample wedding day timeline can really help.

A Little Reality Check: It’s Not About the Number

I totally get why couples ask this – but here’s the thing:

It’s not about getting as many photos as possible.

It’s about getting the right photos.

Every gallery is carefully edited to remove:

  • Duplicates
  • Blinks
  • Test shots
  • Anything that doesn’t add to your story

So instead of hundreds of near-identical images, you get a collection that actually feels like your day.

When Will You Get Your Photos?

Another one that always comes up in chats!

Typically:

  • Sneak peeks: within a few days
  • Full gallery: around 4–8 weeks

This can vary slightly depending on the season, but you won’t be left wondering for months.

Do You Get Every Photo Taken?

Short answer: no – and you genuinely wouldn’t want to.

What you receive is the best, most meaningful version of your day. Fully edited, consistent, and ready to enjoy – not hundreds of test shots or duplicates.

Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Wedding Photos

If you’re getting married in Manchester or the North West, here are a few simple ways to maximise your gallery:

  • Build in enough time (don’t rush everything)
  • Consider a second photographer
  • Trust your photographer (this is a big one!)
  • Plan for light where possible – especially in winter

Final Thoughts

So, how many wedding photos will you receive?

For most full-day weddings in Manchester and across the North West, somewhere between 400–800 images is a solid, realistic expectation.

But more importantly, you’ll receive a gallery that tells the story of your day properly – from the big moments to the tiny ones you didn’t even realise were happening.

If you’re currently planning your wedding and this is one of the many questions on your list – don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone.

It comes up in almost every pre-wedding chat I have… which is exactly why this post now exists 😊
